How did you get started with bodybuilding?
Even as a child I was passionate about fitness, but then my interests was rugby where I played in some of the provincial teams. After school I decided to study photography where I had to look after myself financially, I then became a professional photographer where I worked for the Beeld newspaper and did numerous photo shoots of celebrities, Jaco De Bruyn was one of them in 2010 and that’s when I decided that’s what I want to become, someone in front of the lens with an amazing physique like himself, that’s when I took my fitness career to the next level!!
What keeps you motivated?
The best motivation for me is to hear from other people how I motivate them and that makes me work even harder!
What is your current workout routine?
I train 6 times a week, twice a day where I try to repeat my main muscle groups twice a week.
My current training split is
- Monday: Chest and triceps
- Tuesday: Shoulders and biceps
- Wednesday: Quads and hamstrings
- Thursday: Back and biceps
- Friday: Chest and triceps
- Saturday: Rest
- Sunday: Quads and hamstrings
If you had to choose only 3 exercises, what would they be and why?
I’ll say squats, barbell rows and pull ups, with these 3 exercises you will work the pull body.
Competition history:
- 2012: Winner of BBSA Body Beautiful, South Africa
- 2013: Winner of WBFF South Africa (won my pro status to compete on an international level)
- 2014: Competed in WBFF Worlds, Las Vegas (my first time overseas and first time competing international)
- 2015: 4th place in Canada, Montreal WBFF
- 2016: Top 10 in the world, Canada, Toronto WBFF Worlds
- 2017: Coming soon…
What is your favourite form of cardio?
Have to say I don’t have any favourite cardio exercises, but must say the best one is to walk for an hour on an incline treadmill.
What is your diet like?
Firstly you need to know what works for your body. My diet consists of oats in the morning with my Nutritech peanut butter whey, lots of white basmati and ostrich mince during the day and love my steak and salad at night. Secret is to eat every 2-3 hours.
What supplements do you use?
I am very privileged to be part of Nutritech and it has helped me so much so I believe that supplements is just as important as food, lots of people think by working out your muscles grow, in fact by working out you actually tearing up the muscle and the only way it will grow is with the right nutrition immediately after the workout!
I only use Nutritech supplements, in the morning I take my vitamins, Nitro Cut and Ecdysterone with my peanut butter whey in oats, my Vaso No3 and Beta Alanine before training and the Amino Boost in between, always after training another whey protein, can’t have enough of protein.
