Part 1 Interview: National Level NPC Bodybuilder David Ziegler
What has bodybuilding taught you?
Patience.. I have been weight training for 15 years. I have obsessed over my food and tried all the supplements available.. Time made me better and better.. Practice the basics; eat my food, train hard, rest and don’t get caught up with party lifestyle.. Then patience. Losing your head and trying to do too much too fast.. Disaster.
Are you happy with where you are currently in the bodybuilding/fitness scene?
Not at all.. I want to do so much more in the sport. A longer term goal I have is to step on the Olympia Stage as a competitor.. I have many short term goals that I hope to accomplish but that would be my big one. Short answer, no.. I have a lot of work to do.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced?
Financial and personal issues have given me the biggest challenges.. I’ve spent many nights without food, unable to pay my bills and trying to come up with a way to get into the gyms.. That was a very hard block of years.
Do you bulk and cut or stay lean year round?
I don’t stay lean, I also don’t get fat like some of the guys. I’ll get twenty pounds over weight or so but that’s about the most (out of shape) that I get.
What is your favourite bodybuilding meal?
So if you don’t care about sodium.. which I don’t. King Crab, or Snow Crab legs are delicious.. I could get 20 pounds a day of those things and they are lean as hell.. High in protein.
What is your favourite quote?
You must work on yourself continuously. That’s the greatest ability human beings have over any other living thing on earth. A dog can’t be anything but a dog, A tree can’t be anything but a tree. You have unlimited potential. How do you work on yourself? Read books that inspire you. Listen to motivating audio. The best time for listening is in the morning when your subconscious is most receptive. Les Brown
What is your next goal? Where do you see yourself this time next year?
Biggest immediate goal is to earn my IFBB Pro Card.. Next year.. Half a dozen show wins and twenty pounds heavier.
