Developing a rigorous workout routine can be hard. It can be even harder to stick to it religiously when our lives are ultimately super busy. Like everything, it can sometimes get pushed by the wayside if our jobs and families have to take priority. If you are not in a fitness related job, sometimes your job just will have to come first, considering it is your primary source of income. You may have a busy week of meetings and planning, or you may even be travelling around for conferences. Whatever the situation, it can be difficult to keep your usual regime running amongst such chaos. However, there are a few things you can do to ensure that your fitness levels don’t slip even during the busiest of times.
Install a home workout system
Even if you go to your local gym religiously, it can be worth investing in some home equipment too just for when you can’t make it there. It will also mean that there’s no excuses for at least getting a 20 minute workout in after a long day. The drive or walk to the gym can seem like too much effort if you’re on a tight schedule, so having something in the home can be perfect motivation. Even if you don’t have a proper studio or home gym, consider buying some heavy duty mats you can practice your weights on at home. Or, lay your basement floor with non-slip gym flooring. Once that’s been done, you could install one or two pieces of machinery for when the gym is a no-go. A great option for this is weight benches, as they are versatile and will keep you focused on your goal. Plus, lifting weights is a great way to burn off stress after a long day.
Take your meal prep to the next level
Thanks to Instagram, we all know the importance of weekly meal prep. However, if you’re on a tight schedule for a while, it’s even more important to ensure you’re getting all the right nutrients. This is why it’s vital, during a hectic work week, to prep not only your lunches but your dinners too. You can freeze your evening meals too, so you don’t need to worry about your food going off by Thursday. If the worst happens and your lunches too look inedible by the latter end of the week, spend twenty minutes or so online looking for somewhere nearby to your work where you can grab a healthy meal on the go. This is especially important if you are working somewhere other than your hometown. Try checking out local fitness blogs to see where you can eat both healthily and on-the-go.
Don’t feel pressured to stick to your usual routine
Sometimes, there simply may not be time to go for a huge, muscle pounding workout during your working day. You could be working away and in an unfamiliar area where all you want to do is go back to your hotel room when you finally get out of the office. Instead, go back to basics for a week if you really do need to focus on your work. Simple things such as walking to your conference instead of getting a cab can burn calories and keep you active. Reducing your protein intake for when you’re not working out so hard can mean you avoid putting on fat rather than bulking up. A week off from your usual regime won’t do you any lasting damage, as long as you act appropriately.
