| Protein Supplements Whey Protein Isolate Whey Protein Isolate (WPI): Isolates supply the highest percentage of protein (typically 90% or greater) and are filtered to remove nearly all carbs and fats. Whey Isolate is considered a rapid absorbing protein and is ideal for post-workout or immediately upon waking.
Whey Protein Concentrate Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC): Concentrates typically contain 75 to 80% protein and are less expensive than Isolates. Whey Concentrates are excellent values while still providing a high level of protein and only a few grams of carbs and fats. Some of these also contain a smaller amount of WPI.
Egg & Soy Proteins Soy & Egg Proteins: Both soy and egg proteins have been used by athletes for years. While whey is the most popular choice, these proteins have their place in any program.
Whey Blends Whey Blends: Contain WPI or WPC or both and are blended with other proteins like casein, egg, and possibly soy to create a "time release" or "sustained release" matrix. This is ideal as whey proteins absorb rapidly and the other proteins absorb more slowly.
Nighttime Blends Nighttime Blends: These blends are specifically formulated to be consumed just before sleep with slow-release / absorption being emphasized. The goal is to slowly feed your muscles protein during 8 hours of sleep and avoid catabolism (muscle breakdown).
