How To Stay Motivated When You've Got An Injury

As a bodybuilder or exercise fanatic, an injury is tough to deal with. You’ll want to carry on with exercise so as not to lose your fitness levels. But, you may find yourself becoming increasingly demotivated by comparing your results to your previous bests. This can lead to you giving up, feeling overwhelmed and like things will never get better. So, instead, find ways to keep fit while boosting your confidence and motivation. This will help your body to heal faster and make sure your mind stays in the game ready for your return to full fitness.

Do What You Can

Instead of focusing on what you can’t do, focus on what you can. Unless you’ve sustained a pretty serious full body injury, there will be something you can do. Try lifting with different muscles or doing some cardio exercise instead. Swimming is great when you are injured as the water takes a lot of pressure off your joints.

Know When to Stop

Listen to your body. You know it better than anyone, you just need to listen. When we are injured we put extra pressure on the rest of our bodies, so you are more likely to pick up further injuries. Remember, even going for long, brisk walks will help to keep your fitness levels up so don’t feel like you have to push yourself too hard.

Set Achievable Goals

Setting goals is always a fantastic way to boost your motivation. But, when you are injured it’s important to make sure they are achievable or you will make yourself feel worse. Your goals could be anything from lifting a certain weight, managing your reps or hitting cardio targets you’ve never tried before. Write them down and tick them off once you’ve achieved them for an extra boost.

Prepare for the Future

Try to remind yourself that this isn’t forever, you’ll be back to normal in no time at all. So, look to the future. Make plans for the rest of the year, look at events you might want to attend, book classes and get some new gear from Monsta Clothing Co. for when you are ready to get going again. Give yourself things to look forward to and reasons to stay motivated.

Celebrate Your Successes

Celebrating your successes, no matter how small they are is a great way to stay motivated and make yourself feel better. Every time you tick a goal off your list or have a good Drs appointment, celebrate how far you’ve come. Treat yourself. This could be anything that makes you feel good.

Try New Things

Trying new exercises and sports is great, but you should also try totally unrelated things as a way to take your mind off what you are missing. Why not try a new hobby like photography or music? There are plenty of things you can do, have a look online for some ideas.

Take a Break

Alternatively, you could use your injury as an excuse to take a proper break. Go on a vacation, relax and let your body heal in peace and tranquillity. A few weeks off won’t hurt!

Don’t let your injury bring you down, remember, it’s not the end of the world and enjoy trying new things.
